Refusing to be Muzzled by LA Auto Show, AFS Trinity Pulls 150 MPG SUV out of Show; Will Exhibit Elsewhere in LA During Show
Company says carmakers continue to seek tens of billions of taxpayer dollars, ostensibly to develop fuel-efficient vehicle technologies, but their conduct is evidence they are reluctant to embrace solutions they didn't invent.
Nov. 7, 2008

LOS ANGELES, Nov 07, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- AFS Trinity Power Corporation today announced it pulled its 150 MPG plug-in hybrid SUV prototypes out of the LA Auto Show but will independently exhibit and demonstrate the super fuel- efficient vehicles on their own elsewhere in downtown LA during the show.

The company's decision followed actions by the LA Auto Show to muzzle AFS Trinity from highlighting the 150 miles per gallon fuel economy of its XH150 prototype vehicles. "The suppression by the automakers of information about technologies such as this raises serious questions about the judgment, vision, intentions and capabilities of the leadership of these companies," said Edward W. Furia, Chairman and CEO of AFS Trinity. "Such conduct by the automakers, who are currently seeking tens of billions of taxpayer dollars, ostensibly to develop fuel efficient vehicle technologies, is evidence they are reluctant to embrace solutions they didn't invent."

First shown at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January, 2008, two XH150 prototypes have toured the country for the last ten months and received positive reactions from the American public, national media (see coverage at http://www.afstrinity.com/press-coverage.htm), public officials, Governors, Senators and Members of Congress as well as automotive fleet managers and engineers in Austin, Salt Lake City, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Seattle, Livermore and Sacramento. (Images available for download at http://www.afstrinity.com/press-images.htm).

Furia explained that, when AFS Trinity sought exhibition space on the main floor of the LA Auto Show, the only space that show management offered was the Kentia Hall basement (Note: the LA Auto Show is "owned" by the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association, which, in turn, is closely associated with the major auto makers in Detroit). To address AFS Trinity's concern that the Kentia Hall basement space was much less likely to attract visitors to the XH150 exhibit, show management offered the company a package of floor space in Kentia, advertising space in the auto show program and billboard space on the main floor of the convention center, suggesting that AFS Trinity could use the ad and billboard to attract visitors to the basement exhibit.

"There was just one hitch," Furia said. "Before we could proceed, the content of our ad and billboard had to be submitted to auto show management for approval. When we told them that the ad and billboard content would essentially be the same as what the company has used in its web site for the past ten months and which we used at the Detroit Auto Show in January, they responded that our mileage claim of 150 miles per gallon would not be permitted."

Furia quoted an email from LA Auto Show management that said, "We cannot approve this content ... the mileage claim is of primary concern to us. Manufacturers are forced to quote EPA verified mpg numbers in their advertising, and ... [your] 150-MPG figure is an estimation. A banner like this one in the lobby is likely to generate unfavorable reactions from manufacturers, which is something we will take action to avoid." (Email from LA Auto Show Assistant General Manager, Scott Webb).

In response, AFS Trinity observed that EPA does not certify mileage estimates of show cars and prototypes, but nevertheless offered to modify its billboard and ad content with new text, stating, "150-MPG is an estimate, not EPA-certified ...your mileage may vary."

The email AFS Trinity received in response from LA Auto Show management, according to Furia, reads: 'We will not accept any billboard or program advertising that mentions AFS Trinity's 150-MPG claim, including references as part of the graphics on the vehicle. This is no longer a topic for further discussion."

Explaining AFS Trinity's decision to pull out of the LA Auto show completely, Furia said, "We had no choice but to pull out of the show when they refused to let us state our 150-MPG mileage estimate, as it is the most important and popular feature of our technology. Indeed, I believe our fuel economy would be the main reason that people would go to the trouble to find us at the auto show," he said. "Being in the basement was bad enough. Forcing us to be silent about our key benefit was simply unacceptable."

Ignoring the solution

Furia said, "No one questions the sales potential of a 150-MPG SUV that can carry a whole family and provide better acceleration than similar gasoline models. Every single person who has driven these cars loves them and wants one. We have built two XH150 prototypes and demonstrated them across the country. Yet, none of the major automakers has accepted our invitation to see and drive them, let alone license the technology and mass produce them. They usually claim that they are going to come up with something of their own in the future. In other words, they reject breakthroughs they didn't invent."
"In the meantime," Furia said, "American auto plants are closing, men and women who are among the best trained, most productive auto workers in the world are losing their jobs in record numbers, and America is in danger of losing the last vestiges of its heartland heavy industrial base altogether. We want people to know that a super fuel-efficient automotive solution to our dependence on oil already exists, which the driving public enthusiastically supports and that major automakers can license and mass-produce within an estimated three years."

Furia said, "Our desire to deliver this message in spite of the effort to muzzle us is why we decided to bring our exhibit trailer and prototypes to downtown L.A., the American city that, probably more than any other, understands the environmental, energy and economic implications of this technology. The anticompetitive behavior by the automakers is troubling because Americans still appear willing to buy new cars if they are offered the right ones. Now is the time to embrace new fuel efficient vehicle technologies, not stifle them."

EPA and prototypes

According to Furia, "The reason the LA Auto Show gave for prohibiting our 150 mile per gallon estimate -- which we have widely used in other auto shows and which has been broadly reported by the media worldwide -- is that EPA has not certified this mileage, but this is a weak and transparent excuse, as EPA does not certify mileage for show cars or prototypes. Certification does not happen until a car is much closer to being commercially produced."
AFS Trinity's 150-MPG mileage estimate is based on a typical week of driving: 40 miles, 6 days per week and 80 miles on one weekend day each week. The first 40 miles of every day are electric, with gasoline being used only for distances beyond 40 miles. For this driving profile, the XH-150 uses up to 2 gallons of gas to travel 320 miles, which works out to 160 mpg, which the company rounds down to 150 miles per gallon.

Battery issue

Furia explained that the difference between the AFS Trinity approach to energy storage in a plugin hybrid and that of other developers is the use of ultracapacitors and proprietary control electronics to solve the power and life cycle limitations of batteries. AFS Trinity has been developing sophisticated energy storage and delivery technologies for 18 years working with a variety of private and government entities, including DARPA, NASA, the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Department of Transportation, California State agencies, Oak Ridge National Labs, Lawrence Livermore National Labs, Lockheed, Honeywell, Mercedes, Ricardo and others.

"We applaud attempts by carmakers and others to develop a new battery that might be able to overcome the inherent reliability and durability problems related to the duty cycle demanded of a plugin hybrid, but waiting for it -- especially as it may never emerge or may emerge at an impossibly high cost -- is risky business, particularly when the auto industry needs an energy storage and power management solution for plug ins now," Furia said. "We have a solution today that we have demonstrated and that only requires mass production engineering in order to be put into commercial production in a wide range of cars, trucks and SUVs."

Implications for Auto Industry Stimulus (aka "Bail-out") Package

Furia noted that the Associated Press (AP) reported yesterday that Detroit automakers are once again on Capital Hall in Washington, D.C. seeking a bail-out and forecasting their own demise if they don't get it. "This is certain to be a major issue that the new U.S. Congress and President-Elect Obama will consider. An emergency bail-out could even become an issue in the remaining days of 2008 for the current U.S. Congress," he said.

"The action that the LA Auto Show took to muzzle AFS Trinity has implications for such a bailout," Furia said. "The idea that the Detroit automakers, through their LA Auto Show agents, would seek to suppress interest in a super-efficient vehicle technology developed by a small company such as AFS Trinity truly challenges the imagination, particularly given the global energy security landscape through which America must navigate in the next several decades," Furia said.

Whether the behavior of the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers, and, by implication and association, the carmakers they serve, is based on NIH ("not-invented-here") considerations, or something else, it raises questions about whether the current leadership of the American auto industry possesses the perspective, character, capability and vision to escape the death march in which they currently appear to be locked, no matter how large a bailout the next Congress and President-Elect Obama are willing to support.

"As dangerous as Detroit's problems may be, they also represent an enormous opportunity to reject antiquated attitudes and behaviors and create millions of new jobs and feed unprecedented economic growth, precisely because these problems are so large and so critical to address. Simply put," Furia concluded, "a stimulus package that allows current auto industry leadership to remain in control of the destiny of this critically important industry as it confronts this unprecedented crisis -- and opportunity -- is something that the new Congress and President-Elect Obama should really think twice about."

Stop the 500,000 gallons of radioactive water that goes into the Hudson River

CALL FOR IMMEDIATE IP ACTION!

CALL FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION!

DEMAND A HALT OF ONE-HALF MILLION GALLONS OF RADIOACTIVE WATER
BEING DUMPED INTO HUDSON RIVER !

Local Citizens and organizations around the nation, including Rock the Reactors, Green Nuclear Butterfly, Fuse USA, and Citizens Opposing a Radioactive Environment (CORE) have united to immediately halt the ongoing dumping of 500,000 gallons of radioactive water into the Hudson River through the end of this year - 2008.

According to a July 31, 2008 report, "Indian Point Safety Evaluation," the Entergy-owned Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant implemented plans to drain Fuel Pool 1 by the end of 2008 as "an effective path" to solve the problem of underground fuel pool leaks. Known radioactive contaminants in the water include: Tritium, Strontium, Cesium, and Cobalt. An Entergy employee newsletter admits that "Concentrations of Sr-90 are much higher in the IP1 spent fuel pool than in the IP2 spent fuel pool." These are very Dangerous!

In the Requests for Hearing and Petitions to Intervene legal action filed October 1, 2007 with the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission by the States of New York and Connecticut, Riverkeeper, Inc., Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, the Town of Cortlandt, NY, Connecticut Residents Opposed to Relicensing Indian Point, and Westchester County, NY, current leaks of radioactivity from two spent fuel pools at "higher than acceptable" levels into both groundwater and the Hudson River are a serious concern for impacts of the contamination on the Hudson River fish and shellfish.

Despite Entergy's claims that a program was initiated beginning in April, 2006 to reduce the concentration of radionuclides in the Unit 1 Pool's water via demineralization water filtration process, such filtrate treatment is incapable of removing radioactive Tritium and very fine radioactive particles from water.

In a paper prepared for the Department of Energy by the Westinghouse Savannah River Company, Tritium within water evaporates and is released into the atmosphere. A radioactive isotope of Hydrogen with an effective life of over 240 years, Tritium can be absorbed through the skin, inhaled, and ingested in water and food. Particularly vulnerable are children under 20 and pregnant women. Diseases associated with Tritium exposure include: cancer, asthma, allergies, hormone dysfunctions, leukemia, nervous system disorders, birth defects, Down's Syndrome, defective sperm, and neonatal deaths.

According to a 2008 American Cancer Society Report, 1 out of 2 men and 1 out of 3 women can be expected to face cancer in their lifetime. The citizens of Connecticut, New York, New Jersey are particularly at risk due to Entergy's dumping of 500,000 gallons of contaminated water into the Hudson River, with radioactivity subsequently evaporated into the air and flowing down the Hudson River, washing ashore along Atlantic coast beaches.

Concerned citizens are urged to immediately contact: NY Governor Paterson (518) 474-8390, and your representatives both in the NY State Senate (518) 455-3216, and the NY Assembly (518) 455-4218 and demand an end to the dumping of 500,000 gallons of radioactive water into the Hudson River!

Political Debate: Crimes Against Us: Greenwich, Connecticut

Just posting this bit of American criminality and repulsion generating favoritism as it's from one of my hometown newspapers. I must say that our roster of treasonous pols in Connecticut is more than just embarrassing, it's nauseating to be within their sphere of poison. I'm hoping the revolution comes soon...

Minor parties cry foul over debate exclusion

Incumbent Congressman Christopher Shays (R-4) and his Democratic challenger, Cos Cob resident Jim Himes, have finished up their debate schedule and are looking ahead to Nov. 4, but two major third-party candidates were on the outside looking in.

Neither Richard Duffee, nominee for the Green Party, nor Michael Carrano, nominee for the Libertarian Party, were invited to participate in the debates. Organizers said they didn’t meet the criteria for inclusion and Mr. Duffee is crying foul.

“I’m convinced these debate organizers reached a decision before considering any of the evidence,” Mr. Duffee said in an interview with the Post on Tuesday. “They had the decision made before we even applied to be in a debate. They made that decision based on party and not on the individual. They decided that only Republicans and Democrats should be able to debate.”

The third-party candidates were not invited to appear in the series of League of Women Voters’ debates in the district. State league president Jara Burnett, a Riverside resident, said that while Mr. Duffee and Mr. Carrano did meet the requirement that the candidate be on the ballot, they did not meet the other criteria for inclusion, including broad voter support, sufficient money, and evidence of a campaign being waged, such as having a headquarters, volunteers, position papers, and participation in candidate forums.

“We wanted to provide as much information to the voters from the candidates who are running a really vigorous campaign because we have a limited time format,” Ms. Burnett told the Post.

Ms. Burnett said fund raising was also a factor, citing the league’s decision in 2006 to allow Libertarian Party nominee Phil Maymin to participate after he raised $40,000, but said it wasn’t the most important part of what led to the decision.

“It’s not just a matter of money,” Ms. Burnett said. “It’s a matter of how active your campaign is. Sometimes it’s as simple as seeing whether someone answers the phone at the number we’re given [as] ‘Duffee for Congress’ or ‘Hello.’ In 2006 you saw a very active campaign from Mr. Maymin. You saw Maymin for Congress signs and he sent out mailings. I’ve yet to see anything for Mr. Duffee.”

Mr. Duffee called the league’s stance “totally arbitrary.” Mr. Duffee said he does have office space, which he claims the league found unsatisfactory, as well as a cellular phone representing the main line for the campaign that costs him $100 a month. He said he has raised more than $9,000 for the campaign, more, he claims, than Mr. Maymin had raised before the debate applications were due in 2006, and that he has actually written more position papers than Mr. Himes and the four Republican congressional challengers in the state’s other districts.

“People don’t know I’m running because I’m not in the debates,” Mr. Duffee said. “When you get in the debates then you can raise money. It’s a chicken-and-egg situation. When I tell people I’m running they want to know why I’m not in the debates. The league is influencing voters and how people perceive the race, and they should lose their 501(c) status as an educational group because they are acting in a partisan manner favoring Republicans and Democrats.”

Mr. Carrano could not be reached for comment. Richard Lion, chairman of the Connecticut Libertarian Party, told the Post he thinks the standards for third parties are unreasonably high.

“I think it hurts the voting public,” Mr. Lion said. “We go through so much getting the signatures on petitions to actually get on the ballot and then we get shut out of the debates. It’s like you’re running a race and they tell you the established runners have to run a mile and everyone else has to run 10.”

There were no third-party candidates in the Business Council of Fairfield County’s debate Monday morning in Stamford. Joseph McGee, vice president of public policy for the business council, said it was an easy decision to just focus on Mr. Shays and Mr. Himes as candidates.

“In the past we’ve had third-party candidates, but this year we wanted to focus on one of the two who will win,” Mr. McGee told the Post. “Since we only had a 60-minute format for this debate, we wanted to give them as much time as possible to debate each other and make their positions clear.”

Mr. McGee said Mr. Duffee and Mr. Carrano don’t have much of a chance of influencing the race, unlike in 2006, when Mr. Maymin had the opportunity to upset the vote. Mr. McGee said he doesn’t think the third-party candidates will do that this year.

Mr. Duffee did attend the Monday debate, sitting in the audience and then passing out his literature after it was over. Mr. McGee said he understands why Mr. Duffee is disappointed in the council’s decision, but he feels it is best for voters.

“While he’s got a constitutional right to be on the ballot, this is a private organization and we wanted to focus on the two candidates,” Mr. McGee said.

Ms. Burnett said there will be participation from Mr. Duffee in other league efforts, including an electronic voter’s guide and a printed guide distributed a week before the election.

Truth from 9/11 Shanksville Eyewitness Susan McElwain

Looks like the History Channel is complicit, too, although I've not seen their hack job as I'm sans TV. Remember my friends - that in the heat of the moment and just before clamp down orders reached all staff, United Airlines stated that 93 landed in Cleveland; the likely scenario was depicted in Loose Change. What happened to the people? For an insight, see the chilling video of one heroic lady's fake 9/11 call... and remember of course that cell calls from aircraft were impossible in 2001... also keep in mind the physics problem wherein a plane simply can not go as fast as the government claims at low altitude. The "debris," by the way, was scattered about by the C-130 that was seen and officially acknowledged to be in the area. The "wing scars" were in existence since at least 1994, clearly shown on a USGS aerial photo taken in that year. So we're left with this cruise missile (MQ-9 predator UAV? JASSM?) making the little smoking crater, under the cover of the various war games the Dick was overseeing. I mean, my God... will it never end? Are they to get away with treason and murder?

This uncut interview footage with Shanksville Eyewitness Susan McElwain debunks the Official Story and exposes The History Channel's heavy editing of her eyewitness account.

McCain Staffer Threatens to Arrest Journalist for Exposing Paid 'Volunteers'

Well, how thoroughly disgusting. A harbinger of the coming police state via a mindless thug working for the psychopaths known as McCain/Palin. They're all about hate... and unfortunately it's us that they hate.

More at http://www.theuptake.org
If there's one thing both the McCain and Obama campaigns agree on it's that the election will be close in Florida. The McCain campaign says it has more volunteers than the Democrats and that ultimately gives them the edge. McCain's Central Florida Campaign Manger says ACORN and the Democrats have to rely on paid workers.

However, the McCain campaign is hiring paid workers who sometimes also call themselves volunteers. The UpTake's Sam Mayfield talked to a few of them... and that's when one McCain campaign worker decided you shouldn't see what is going on and threatened to have her arrested.

Irish bookie calls US race over, pays off on Obama

Well now, when Elf Hellion sent me this piece I was amazed at the confidence in the result that this bookie showed... I mean... damn! Then I read further that they do this a lot, but still... so let's hope (and pray if you're into that) that Paddy's not embarrassed on the day... even though I prefer Ron Paul, who hasn't voted with the corporate scum or been AIPACed... not that he has a chance, but Obama has at least a theoretical chance of actually doing something good.

Thu Oct 16, 3:22 PM ET

DUBLIN, Ireland - The race is over as far as Ireland's biggest bookmaker is concerned.

Paddy Power PLC says it is so sure Barack Obama will win the U.S. presidential election next month that it paid off Thursday on all bets it had taken backing the Democratic candidate. It said it shelled out more than €1 million, about $1.35 million.

"We declare this race well and truly over and congratulate all those who backed Obama — your winnings await you," the company said in a statement.

Paddy Power has a long tradition of winning free publicity by paying off early, particularly on political contests — and it also has a recent record of getting the result spectacularly wrong.

In June, the company paid out early in favor of people who bet Irish voters would approve the European Union's latest treaty in a referendum. The next day, a "no" result sent shock waves across the 27-nation EU, and cost Powers a hefty sum since it ended up paying off both sides of the bet.

The same thing would happen to Powers if it guessed wrong about the U.S. election. The pro-Obama bettors would keep the winnings paid out Thursday, while John McCain backers would cash in, too.

Powers said the biggest winner among the Obama bettors was someone who gambled €100,000 and got back a total of €150,000.

The most visionary bettor, though, was the "punter" who put down €50 on Obama in 2005. At the time, Obama was listed at 50-to-1, so the bettor got €2,550.

Despite calling the contest, the Dublin-based bookmaker said it is still taking new bets on the race. A John McCain victory Nov. 4 on a bet placed Thursday would pay off €5 for every €1 bet. By contrast, each €1 bet on Obama would net just 11 € cents.

LOWFI's most exciting event yet!

The League of Western Fortean Intermediatists

Presents our most exciting event yet!

Join conspiracy writers Kenn Thomas and Adam Gorightly for an evening of brain-tickling lectures

Sunday, October 19 @ 7pm at an undisclosed location in Echo Park

Were the Early UFO Contacees Ritual Magicians?

Adam will present startling evidence that the early UFO contactees, as well as current day abductees, have used ritual magick, wittingly and unwittingly, to summon forth UFOs and their often interesting occupants!

Wilhelm Reich Versus the Flying Saucers

Kenn traces the history of the battle between the psychologist Wilhelm Reich and UFOs in the desert of the American southwest in the 1950s, detailing the involvement of the Eisenhower administration and the development of the military industrial state. Reich was a world renowned intellectual, a protégé of Sigmund Freud, who emigrated to America after WWII and caused controversy over his work with an energy source he called orgone. Toward the end of his life, Reich designed technologies to utilize orgone in combating what he perceived as an alien invasion from space. Thomas reviews this story, including Reich's trip through Roswell and the documentary proof left behind by Reich of the existence of MJ12, the shadowy alien interface group.

Copies of Kenn's new book, Secret and Suppressed II: Banned Ideas and Hidden History into the 21st Century will be available at the lecture.

Please consider carpooling for this event, as there is limited street parking. The location will be provided in an email later this week. If you have any questions, please email Skylaire at gmail dot com.

Palin Brushing Up On Foreign Policy At Epcot

I read this over at the Onion and I just roared. Those dudes are just so very good at what they do. They are one of the few teams in humor that can get me to smile, and even laugh through my depression. Seriously, though, they always raise awareness of serious issues, like this incredibly frightening choice for leader of the free world, as that's what she'll be as soon as the psychopath kicks the bucket, which wouldn't be too long I think. Someone who is a hell of a lot more bone-headedly stupid (and mean) than that unfortunate teen beauty queen they're always mixing in on all those YouTube videos. Anyway, thanks Onion!

Palin Brushing Up On Foreign Policy At Epcot

September 29, 2008 | Issue 44•40

ORLANDO, FL—Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin sought to silence those who have criticized her lack of foreign affairs experience Tuesday by announcing plans for a weeklong, 10-nation tour of Walt Disney World's Epcot. According to Palin, the trip—her first past Frontierland—will include speaking engagements at Norway's famous Viking ride, sausages at Germany's Kaufhaus, and, time permitting, a fact-finding mission to Future World. "This ambitious trip should finally demonstrate that I am ready to assume the vice presidency, whether by standing in long lines at Morocco's Tangierine Café or by sitting down face-to-face with Mexico's Three Caballeros," Palin announced during a campaign stop outside a Chinese restaurant in Tulsa, OK. "All of our neighbors deserve good diplomacy, from the Universe of Energy down to the French pavilion." Palin also promised a visit to the American Adventure exhibit before returning home, adding that she hoped to learn more about her own nation and the diverse peoples within.
